North Berkeley BART Station Reopened After Fatality On The Tracks
BERKELEY (CBS SF) — The North Berkeley BART station has been reopened after a person was struck and killed by a train earlier Tuesday prompting the station to shut down, BART officials said.
A train operator reported at 1:15 p.m. that they had possible struck a person on the trackway just north of the North Berkeley station, BART spokeswoman Alicia Trost said. The train was just leaving the station heading towards Richmond.
BART crews shut down the station to investigate, confirming by about 2:30 p.m. that a person had been struck and killed there.
The Alameda County coroner’s bureau responded to the station, according to Trost.
The station reopened as of about 3:30 p.m. Riders can expect residual delays of 10-20 minutes on the Richmond and Fremont lines.
