The game has been out for less than a week and already has set new video game sales record, according to Ubisoft's own data.
The latest Tom Clancy-inspired action RPG title is the fastest selling game in Ubisoft's history.
In 24 hours, the new game has sold through more digital and physical copies than any other title, according to the company's own data.
"We're extremely happy with The Division's record-breaking launch," said David Polfeldt, Managing Director, Ubisoft's Massive studio.
The game, which is set in the aftermath of a pandemic that turns polite society inside out, features a top secret tactical group that hide among the public, called the Division, who are called upon when the future of the world looks in doubt.
The game's ambitious scale and scope--it's a third person shooter, RPG, and a massive online multiplayer rolled into one--means that development has been slow and launch dates pushed back, therefore it is little wonder that Ubisoft is being so quick to point to sales figures.
The game's performance also highlights how using closed betas in the months leading up to a hard release is a very good idea, not just for ironing out bugs but for building up buzz and excitement.
